ABOUT REGION PAYS DE LA LOIRE
The Région Pays de la Loire is a regional authority located in Western France. As all other French Regions, its main missions are economic development, spatial planning, education and training. However, it also supports scientific research very actively.
Its research policy is implemented by the Research & Higher Education Department which includes three Offices, working respectively on research, higher education and stays abroad for the young. The Region budget for research was €50 million in 2009. It doubled since 2004. One of the main research fields in Pays de la Loire is health. The Region has spent more than €23 million for research in health since 2006.
The Research Office implements the Regional Research Scheme, which prioritised among scientific fields and set the operational intervention framework. The Office thus runs vast investment programmes, which are co-funded by the State and other local authorities, as well as calls for projects (including investment and operating costs). It also proposes financial packages in order to attract researchers from outside the Pays de la Loire and supports scientific dissemination to the public.
WHY WE JOIN TERM
The Région Pays de la Loire is defining and implementing the regional RDI policy. It will help defining in which measure and in which way the TERM Regional research agenda can be programmed and put into place.
